The WAFFEN SS were NOT (!!!!) the “unlit clad” men. That was the ALGEMEINE SS. The WAFFEN SS were the loyal MILITARY branch of the SS and were (composed are) recognized and some of the best trained and fighting soldiers in military history. The “murky clad” ALEGEMEINE is what made up the bad GESTAPO, Hitler’s personal bodyguard, the SD and most of the internal SS force in Germany and the occupied territories. The regular army panzer troops wore the shadowy uniforms, but they were NOT fraction of the SS. The WAFFEN SS wore the field gray and camouflaged uniforms. Yes, they were brutal, and some were share of some “questionable” activities in the war. But, they were NOT what most people consider of the SS, which is the GESTAPO. This error is about as well-liked as authors, directors, etc. calling the GERMAN army, the NAZI army or calling the LUFTWAFFE the NAZI air force. MOST German soldiers were NOT NAZIs. Yes, their GOVERNMENT leaders, for the most portion, were NAZIs, but NOT the soldiers. I’ve even seen some people say, NAZI tanks!! I was not aware that a Tiger tank could belong to a political party!

If AMAZON cannot gather this fair in their description, what is the point of watching something like this?

Do your research. DO NOT hold everything that is produced, ESPECIALLY by US writers or directors. Remember, the winners write the history. English and French produced material is more true and more evenly presented.

I was furious that all the reviews say that the DVD included the extras from The Graduate (40th Anniversary Collector’s Edition)

The DVD that came with my Bluray however did not. The version that came with mine was the 2005 MGM DVD release that only includes the trailer and 4:3 (not 16:9) letter-boxed version of the film. The Graduate

It seems Fox is fair throwing in whatever DVD copies they have on hand so while some people are getting the 40th Anniversary DVD not all copies include that version.

Admittedly the packaging doesn’t say that any of the DVDs extras are included but it’s tranquil disappointing when you read in reviews that they are included only to accumulate that they are not in the copy you accumulate. It’s a frail go on Fox’s fragment to include the DVD with extras in some copies and not in others.

I contacted Fox about this and they aren’t willing to do anything about it.

So buyer beware NOT ALL COPIES INCLUDE THE DVD EXTRAS and there is no plan to declare whether or not it does without opening it.

I treasure this movie, always loved it, even in Lo-Def or No Def.

Is Anne Bancroft hotter in HD/Blu-Ray? Is angry man Dustin Hoffman’s insane screaming, “Eeeeellllaaaaine!” at the top of his lungs as Katherine Ross stands at the alter about to say “I do,” more riveting and dramatic in Hi-Def?

Very possibly.

I don’t know, honestly. This movie is so fantastic everytime I ogle it though- Bancroft’s Mrs. Robinson is the consumate cougar, and her performance is iconic. And she IS hot, as well as deliciously, stalkerishly creepy in this role! You don’t need high def to delight in that.

Dustin Hoffman’s portrayal of the confused and obsessed Benjamin Braddock is pitch perfect. This account never gets mature, it’s classic, timeless, and situation to a sweet Simon & Garfunkel soundtrack.

If you’re replacing your collection with blu-ray, or if your looking for something to round out a “occupy one-get one” deal, procure this. It’s an valuable movie, whatever definition you’ve got.

Why was Playtime a failure, sending Jacques Tati into bankruptcy and costing him control over his life’s work of films? His previous film, My Uncle, had been a commercial and artistic success. M. Hulot’s Holiday and Jour de Fete had gained Tati world-wide recognition and respect. He had become recognized as one of the few authentic geniuses of film.

Watch Playtime and I reflect you’ll obtain the retort. Tati in his earlier films placed Hulot in situations where we could empathize with him. Hulot was an innocent. As we came to like him, we also came to like the people he encountered. Even with their pretensions and idiosyncrasies, we could sight something of ourselves in them. Tati might be holding up a mirror for us to peer in, but M. Hulot was such a gentle companion that we smiled as we recognized ourselves.

With Playtime, there is tiny Hulot. However, as with all his movies, Tati fills Playtime with streams of intricate and carefully developed humorous situations (although funny is too colossal a term), often that get from diminutive happenings we’ve barely noticed. There is only sporadic and incidental dialogue, but sound effects are considerable to the movie, as subtle and silly as what we peruse.

As sterile and unattractive as Tati makes the airport, the office building, a convenience store and the apartment, there are such exclusive and subtle sights as the bobbing wimple wings on two nuns, a floor sweeper staring at a booted officer, Hulot suddenly sliding down a floor, glass windows and doors impossible to convey if they’re there or not, a table lamp that dispenses cigarettes, strange-looking and wobbling food at a self-service counter…and the list simply goes on. And it’s not impartial one thing at a time. Tati can bear a conceal with all sorts of humorous occurrences, some happening in the foreground, some in help, some at the sides.

The last hour of the movie takes site in a original nightclub, the Royal Garden, which has objective opened and is barely ready for its customers. And that, I suspect, is the point Tati wanted to fabricate. In an unusual sort of procedure, the last ten minutes evoke the humor and warmth of previous Tati movies…a packed traffic circle with all the cars spellbinding slowly together; a father taking a toy horn from his minute boy and blowing it, too; the bittersweet last peruse at Hulot walking past a bus where a young woman he met at the nightclub is being taken to the airport with her tourist group.

If you like Tati’s viewpoint on the impersonalization of fresh society, you’ll probably like Playtime. Some critics call it his masterpiece. If you like Tati, I contemplate Playtime is indispensable, if only to understand what happened to him. The movie is an idiosyncratic and fearless failure, in my concept, and remarkable too long. Smooth, I’d rather explore Playtime than most of what passes as genius in films today.

The current Criterion release looks very expedient. This edition has several extra features including supplements about Tati and an audio interview with him. The case also contains an insert with an essay by Jonathan Rosenbaum, identified as a film critic.

This is a singular masterpiece in film making but totally unlike anything, even for it’s day. By today’s attention deficit disorder standards, this film is really really exclusive. But no doubt it is a masterpiece if the viewer is willing to set the difficulty in to rep all the nuances because this is a film of nothing but nuances. Tati himself is unprejudiced one of many participants.

There is a area of sorts dealing with a group of female American tourists and the one women who is the exclusive duck among them. She meets Tati and they use the night together dancing at a night club and inspect in the dawn at a coffee shop. Various bits of business are constantly swirling around them and you could concept this record 10 times before seeing everything. There are many jokes but they are gentle visual puns. Don’t quiz belly laughs, unbiased a wry but fantastic concept on fresh life.

As is standard practice for Criterian these days the extras on disc two are spectacular. The documentaries on Tati’s life and this film are smart and helped me understand his art and this film great better.

A gentle film with lustrous utilize of wide cloak (this film would invent no sense pan and scan) you need to drop into the portray to appreciate it. But there is an endless wealth of material to relish.

Director Harmony Korine may or may not be the latest “enfant unpleasant,” but he’s certainly given us something to contemplate about with “Gummo.” He’s given us about 90 minutes of in-your-face immersion into a culture that most of us only recognize in “Cops” and other “reality” programs that deal with the hopeless, hapless people who obtain up the bottom strata of White America.

We suddenly procure ourselves immersed in a culture where single moms huff glue with their teenage sons and their buddies and where boys hunt neighborhood cats with BB guns and sell the carcasses to a guy who supplies meat to Chinese restaurants. As the fable develops, we learn the boys utilize their cat money on glue and the services of a young prostitute who looks like Anna Nicole Smith with a lobotomy.

This movie is like a deny atomize - at once horrifying and mesmerizing.

I disagree with an earlier reviewer who saw “Gummo” as an depraved fragment of elitism.

I deem that charge misses the point. This is not some arrogant exposé of the quaint ways of the unpleasant, it’s a 90-minute tour of the self-perpetuating Culture of Stupidity that can be found on the fringes of every city and town in America. These are people who turn terrible choices into a blueprint of life because that’s what their parents did and their parents before them. Yes, Korine packs the veil with enough geeks and freaks to populate a dozen circus sideshows, but his point is well taken. This is a strata of society that Hollywood ignores, except for the occasional cameo role in films like “Deliverance.” It’s a vision of a reality that we notice instantly from our day-to-day experience, but which is carefully filtered out of the mass media.

Whether Korine has talent or promise in any convential sense of the words remains to be seen, but he’s created a new film that is destined to become a cult classic.

But, as an earlier reviewer distinguished, this is not a first-rate date night substitute for “Casablanca” or “The Sound of Music.”

If you report this film to people, and mumble them you like it, they’ll judge you’re insane and shy. It’s a documentary/collage like film about white trash. Some advertisements for the film have tried to characterize it as a comedy, but it isn’t. It’s mostly vignettes from the town of Xenia, Ohio, where white trash and their values reign supreme. Cat killers (no cats were actually harmed), paying for sex with mentally handicapped people, white trash beating up chairs, and paint huffing are some of the attractions you’ll spy here. But Korine edits and films it in, dare I say, an artistic and engaging plan. There is something going on here. This was an independent movie, but most indie movies are objective quirky films that aren’t that different than what mainstream Hollywood gives us. This is a dependable independent film. Korine films in 8mm, video, 16mm, and 35mm. He doesn’t seem enthusiastic in crossover appeal with his work. He captures the despair and nihilism of these white trash denziens. And some of the images stick in your mind, like the kid taking a bath at the waste eating spaghetti in a filthy tub. Korine has made only 2 features, but they are both certainly worth watching, and quite dazzling, in their have, unique intention. This is a very friendly film….

In short, Remove THIS ITEM! This takes some of the best episodes from seasons 5 and 6, including an episode debunking myths that the moon landing was actually a fallacious that was nominated for A FREAKING EMMY, and gives them proper to you for a ticket well worth it. Not having cable for the past 4 years now, collections like this have been growing in my DVD library for some time, and this is one that I can definitely search for myself watching over and over. Jamie and Adam are unbelievable at what they do, and perfectly toe the line between science and entertainment. You’ll earn yourself correcting people at parties with, “Well, from what I saw on Mythbusters…” in no time!

I honest can not catch enough of these collections. Jamie and Adam are gods and I am their disciple. Although I can’t effect anything more complicated than a sandcastle I can live vicariously though the astounding talents and ridiculous stunts of these two improbable people. If you are like me an can’t afford an entire season, grasp the collections. For about a quarter of the notice you can score hours and hours of fun education (and not a few explosions) . I hope they never end.

Having said that, my review is of the KINO dvd release, a very attractive one as this company does not distribute anything less(you pay more, but if you know anything about mute and classic movies it will be no secret to you that if you pay peanuts that is exactly what you will net….) …it is however disconserting to notice that even the best available dvd release collected hasn’t been cleaned up to the degree that other classic soundless masterpieces have..surely with todays technology a digital “hoovering” of this film is not too mighty to ask.

Wonderful film of course, but you know that otherwise you wouldn’t even be reading these reviews, and the KINO version is, so far, the best you can gather for your money.

I had watched many poorly-made VHS tapes of this film and was very cheerful a restored version came out on video. There’s probably no better draw to study this film. This visual ravishing soundless German film tells the sage of a wrathful doctor who trains a sleepwalker to raze people in order to watch the effects of somnambulism. Filled with images resembling one’s nightmare (or the mind situation of a mentally-ill) — distorted views, deformed spaces, bizarre lights and shadows — this film in 1919 helped usher in a recent era of German Expressionism, a period that produced such classics as The Last Laugh, Nosferatu, and Metropolis.

This DVD is identical in squawk to the laserdisc from Image a few years ago, with the exception that the LD included a detailed letter explaining why there is a faint horizontal line approach the top of the conceal in positive scenes (it’s a misplaced “frame line” that is supposed to stamp the edge of a frame) . The DVD merely mentions on the jacket case that this is a “defect” on the film negative. Like the LD, this DVD also presents the film in a “windowbox”, ensuring every frame can be seen in fleshy.

The audio commentary on the alternate sound track is thoughtful and insightful, but the commentator reiterates remarkable of what appears on the jacket essay. Other extras include a few comtemporary photographs related to the film, and a short mute film from the Expressionist era.

It really makes no sense, especially considering the fact that there are tranquil many expansive classic Warner Brothers cartoons that have yet to be released on DVD.

For instance, where’s “Racketeer Rabbit,” that classic 1946 Bugs Bunny short with gangster caricatures Edward G. Robinson and Peter Lorre? There have been numerous Looney Tunes DVD releases that this classic and other enormous cartoons have not appeared on, while there are other WB cartoons that have appeared on DVD twice so far.

Warner Brothers needs to release a seventh Golden Collection area that features all of those classics the studio to this point has failed to secure on DVD. Releasing yet another DVD collection - like Spotlight Collection 7 - that contains cartoons that appeared on a previous release is like a slap in the face to the exact fans who purchased the prior collections.

When it has came down to it, the Looney Tunes Cartoons have honestly been one of the most influential series of animation that we’ve enjoyed all throughout the years. But when I had found out that they would not be making anymore of them to thrive on the current Golden Collection Series last year, I was absolutely devistated. Yet, it has came to a complete surprise that I found out that there were going to be more versions of the smaller Spotlight Collections, for budget seekers, and those who were fresh to the Looney Tunes series everywhere. It really was not something I was very jubilant with. Not only that, but when I also found out that the series had not anything to hold the breath away that was recent to DVD, I was also wasn’t very joyful either. Here is what it feels like to say that is honestly all folks!

The Looney Tunes Spotlight Collection Volume 7 is not anything unusual for those who’ve enjoyed the laughter and the spirit from the Looney Tunes Golden Collection Volumes 1-6, not only that, but it doesn’t do anything to originate it different from what the Golden Collections top to bottom had that was anything to excite and offer. Anyway, all of these shorts have been remastered, but not anything novel for anyone who already owns all 6 of the Golden Collections at all. The volume tries to fully re-introduve the classic staples of Bugs, Daffy, the Chuck Jones favorites of the Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote, and some of the other favorites. Sadly though, only 2 shorts are fresh to DVD, rather than it being all 26. Well, here is the complete list:

Overall, I really was expecting more novel to DVD shorts from the classic vault of the Looney Tunes series taht weren’t from the Golden Collection volumes 1-6. Considering now that the lesser exciting Spotlight Collection is collected in interrogate, while the greater Golden Collection series is not releasing another volume, it is not a accurate must-have for hard core Looney Tunes fans, unless you have honestly never seen a episode of the classics in animation, than it honestly would be a huge starter sampler for those unusual to the Looney Tunes gang. But honestly, the Looney Tunes Spotlight Collection: Volume 7 isn’t really enough to say That’s All Folks?? But unbiased a bit to short.

“THE MADDER HULK GETS, THE STRONGER HE GETS”. Apparently, ol’ Jade-Jaws has been rebooted for the cloak under the moniker; “Fantastic Hulk” with a recent director; Louis Letterrier, a novel script by Zack Penn and has a unique lead actor in Edward Norton. To be unprejudiced, I’m one of the few who appreciated Ang Lee’s “Hulk”, appreciated but didn’t care for. Definite, it was too touchy, nary a smile on anyone’s face, fat of human angst and deceptive looking CGI, but I opinion it was reminiscent to the humorous book when Paul Jenkins was at its helm. 2008’s version of the Green Goliath trumps the 2003 version, with a different origin, more action and the CGI is a large improvement over its predecessor. No, it is not a sequel to the 2003 film but a re-imagining that has cessation links to the “Hulk” (except for the color) who appears in Marvels’ “The Ultimates” humorous book.

Bruce Banner (Edward Norton) is hiding out somewhere in South America, looking for a cure for his gamma-induced affliction, trying to maintain his temper in check, keeping a obscene profile and avoiding a definite General Ross (William Distress) who intends to effect an army of super-soldiers from his bear D.N.A.. After being pursued by a team led by Emil Blonsky (Eli Roth), Banner returns to America to pursue a cure and asks longtime care for Betty Ross (Liv Tyler) for her support in finding a man named “Mr. Blue” who may be able to cure him of his gamma-powered alter-ego. Blonsky is hot on their stride and asks Ross to experiment further with the workings of gamma radiation and cellular manipulation with him as the guinea pig. Blonsky is a man who wants power–at any cost.

The origin of the Hulk has been re-written from its 2003 version. Banner is a scientist who is unknowingly performing experiments on gamma applications to try to replicate a serum based on a World War II super-soldier serum (Captain America anyone? ) that apparently got out of hand. Ross wants it as a weapon (no surprise) and Banner is the victim. Readers of Marvel’s “the ULTIMATES” may gawk some similarities and may applaud this depart. It was a grand recede to incorporate a fresh script to this 2008 film and Louis Letterrier seems to be the moral man for its directorial duties. The script by Zack Penn in the hands of this director smooth has the usual touches of human drama and a testy atmosphere but at a better accelerate than Lee’s rendition of ol’greenskin.

The CGI effects is a step forward from its previous incarnation; an improvement but collected not perfect. The Hulk looks more ferocious and feral than the 2003 version and the moments where he says “Hulk Shatter” collected puts a smile on my set. I was waiting on the line “Hulk is the Strongest one there is” but I guess this would raze the film’s mood, and become a bit too silly. The battle with the Abomination is the film’s main method. The fight is fierce, savage and above all, very hard-hitting. You feel the impact of the blows, and the snarls add a lot of animal-like ferocity. There is also quite a decent number of action sequences dispersed throughout the film. Banner’s encounters with a Black-ops team in the first 20 minutes and with a puny army contingent helps the film’s slither. Hulk smashes cars, humvees, and crushes almost everything in sight; Hulk also “claps” with such devastation. There are also moments that assign Hulk’s relationship with Betty in the spotlight and the savage monster is truly only savage when provoked. Hulk gets to exhibit some emotion and sensitivity in the presence of Betty. Nice touches, truly reminiscent of the droll book.

Edward Norton’s Bruce Banner may well be a minute underdeveloped but by now, the film is probably relying on the fans to know what he is all about. Banner has that nerdy discover but at the same time, strong and certain. Banner trains in the Brazilian style martial arts to try to control his exasperate by discipline. I almost wanted him to say: “Hulk knows Kung fu” but thankfully that didn’t materialize. Norton gives a strong performance as our tortured scientist, I rather plan that he displayed the accurate emotions when one is disquieted of losing himself. William Injure is an outstanding General “Thunderbolt” Ross, his character is reminiscent of the other ruthless ones, Distress has played throughout his career. Ross is a man of duty and has that `someone needs to collect their hands dirty’ attitude that gives his character a lot of depth. Liv Tyler is on par with Jennifer Connelly’s Betty Ross. She’s the anchor that pulls Bruce through the hardened moments.

While the film has the tendency in becoming a bit overlong and plunge to the pitfalls of too powerful melodrama and excessive exhibit of human angst, the film has some cleverly placed bits of satire that assists the film’s lag. You wouldn’t gain Banner’s attempts in communication in Portuguese; “..you wouldn’t like me when I’m hungry.” Stan Lee and Lou Ferrigno makes cameo appearances which also add some subtle bits of humor.

Ultimately, “Astonishing Hulk” is a success and an effective reboot from Ang Lee`s 2003 version. The film managed to cease focused in its context of a “Dr. Jekyll-Mr. Hyde” formula and the same time delivered a cleverly action-filled popcorn film that delivers the goods. There are hints of an underlying thought with Robert Downey’s guest appearance and the hints of a “super-soldier” does give humorous book fans something to peer forward to. The film is a stout laughable book adaptation and it comes highly recommended from me who has seen Jade-Jaws’ ups and downs since 1979.

HULK SAYS RECOMMENDED! [4- Stars]

This re-imagining of the green Goliath works far better than Ang Lee’s 2003 outing that’s for distinct. Being an avid admirer of the Bixby/Ferrigno series in the slack seventies and early eighties I found this film to be closer in spirit to the series and I definitely liked that.

The Hulk’s origins are played out at the very beginning and once that’s over and done with audiences are in for a snappy paced and delectable coast. The film attempts to withhold people who liked the series ecstatic as well as the crowd who want it firmly rooted in Marvel tradition. The Hulk battles a foe called The Abomination in the final third, and by the plot that fight is glorious unbelievable, and I glean that that’s a person to be found in the recent comics.

While Eric Bana was one of the few things that was sure about Hulk (2003), Norton betters him here. He’s such a natural performer and he can grunt so worthy with mere expressions. He was the perfect choice to play Banner, in some ways he reminded me of Bixby. Tim Roth is one of those actors who’s always agreeable and he doesn’t falter here. But William Wound really surprised me. I’ve always notion he was splendid but I’d have to say this is his finest performance in many years. General Ross is a grand better written character here than in the 2003 version and Distress simply excels in the portion.

As for the CGI, they work really well. The Hulk looks extremely frosty and far better here. He doesn’t continue to grow as he gets angrier and while that may annoy some I actually found it a plus. And those spacious leaps are history as well, he jumps far enough but nothing compared to Ang Lee’s version.

The Astounding Hulk does well what it intends to do which is entertain. Overall it’s burly of action, very well acted and fairly well written. Must Eye!

My husband and I rented the dual sided version of the film a couple days ago as well as bought two pairs of the dual color 3D glasses.

The film was absolutely exquisite designed and enthralling. It was also delightfully balanced between trippy and creepy. I’d definitely say that if parents have young children, they should preview the film prior to showing it and exhaust their personal judgment. The record has the same threads of menace that haunts modern Brother’s Grimm tales. The film at times can be rather disturbing. My husband and I humorously traded off with the line, “That is messed up!” several times through out the film. My only critique with the film is that the resolution falls too quickly and maybe too neatly into position.

The reason my review is three stars is that I fail to scrutinize the reason late packaging the DVD with a 3D version of the film. Even on a HD plasma with unimpaired vision, the dual colored glasses unbiased did not work for me at all. I knew going in that the home television would lose the fantastic finish of what dual projection in a theater could construct, so I didn’t have high expectations. I was merely moving if the industry had gotten better at implementing it over time.

I went in to watching the 3D version expecting to at least win a sense of scene depth similar to an passe school View-Master. Unfortunately, I didn’t even score that. None of the 3D effects worked for me. Even with a darkened room, my eyes would water while they constantly fought to refocus and originate sense of the dual colors. I had to close watching after about twenty minutes in, because my eyes were objective exhausted. The 3D versions also dulls the color method. This really doesn’t do the unique film justice at all. It was rather horrible to gawk the gleaming color disagreement switching from 3D to the 2D version.

In Conclusion: Skip the 3D gimmick and savor the 2D version.

This curious animation starts with tween-aged angst, the kind that demands independence but calm wants mom and dad terminate by. Her busy parents don’t have powerful time for her, though, and her current, remote home doesn’t offer grand reward for her explorations (other than some rather kooky neighbors) . So, even if it’s not wholly conscious, Coraline wishes for a nicer set and parents that pay more attention.

As the movie’s tagline says, “be careful what you wish for.” Like Alice down the rabbit hole, Coraline finds a secret passage to a more magical spot. Soon, however, the magic turns shadowy. That’s where the shining animation really comes into its possess. The finish animation (or at least the spy of it) bring to mind Tim Burton with a macabre touch of Brothers Quay. You know your child best - scared ones might accumulate some of the imagery a bit mighty. Mild, kids’ stories (like Alice in Wonderland) have always had dusky edges. That deliciously spooky sense, plus some gargantuan animation, really residence this movie apart from the usual.
